Apple and the Great Memory Rip Off! Thursday, November 15 2007
Why does Apple charges so much for RAM? I am looking at buying my first Apple machine, and I am just shocked to see how much they get away with charging! Apple is charging and additional £450 for 4GB of RAM when I can get the same 4GB from Dabs.com for £103. That's more than four times the cost (but don't forget that 2GB is already priced into the laptop), and totally unjustified. The thing that annoys me most, is sure, I can buy my RAM elsewhere (and I will) but then I'm left with 2GB of RAM that I was forced to purchase and I don't want that . I know I'm not alone in this either.
Come on Apple, lets sort this out. They're not alone in charging well over the odds for RAM (Dell charges an additional £204 for 4GB in their laptops with 1GB) but they're still the worst offenders.
