Community Server 2007 Sub Forms Wednesday, November 14 2007
Earlier this week I was spending most of my time converting the Microsoft Dynamics Live Community site from Community Server 2.1 to Community Server 2007. One of the things that had been done on the original site was to extend the user sign up process to capture a bunch of metadata as well as the usual stuff (email address, timezone etc). With Community Server 2007 this is easier than ever to do. Over at Ben Tiedt's site you'll find a great article on how you can do this. It contains code samples and explains some of the key properties and methods to be aware of. I took me no time at all to write my sub form, and the best thing is, you can also simply drop it into the edit profile form too so if you write code add extra data to user at runtime, with no changes at all you can use it on the edit profile page.
P.S. Also check out Ben on this weeks TelliCast where he talks to Adonis Bitar about Chameleon, the new (awesome) theming engine in Community Server 2007.
